A.      Individuals Who May Compete:


1.      Any regular, full-time member of a regularly constituted law enforcement agency, including federal, state, county and municipal departments.


2.      Reserve and auxiliary police, reserve deputy sheriffs, and other law enforcement reserves may compete if they are uniformed, sworn, part- time working, and trained personnel.  This category includes Police Cadets, 18 years or older if they possess written certification of their qualifications from a CPPA member, who is a full-time law enforcement officer.


3.      Officers who qualify under subsection A.1.may, after retirement and if receiving retirement benefits enter competition covered by these rules.  Such retirees who are employed after retirement in any agency which qualifies for entry in CPPA sanctioned matches may not compete as a retired officer, but may compete as a member of the organization in which he is presently serving.  All retired reserve officers, with a minimum of 10 years service, or reserve officers who leave their agency after 10 years service, may compete.


4.                All registered college students and Police Science Firearms Instructors may compete at the discretion of the Match Sponsor.  A student must be accompanied by his/her firearms instructor, or have in his/her possession a letter, signed by the firearms instructor, certifying that he/she has completed the basic firearms class offered in his/her school.  The letter of certification must also be endorsed by a full-time law enforcement officer who is a member of CPPA. 


5.                Police trainees or similar positions, employed by a law enforcement agency in a non-sworn position and who are considered to be in training to become peace officers, are eligible.  These individuals must have in their possession written certification with their qualifications from a CPPA member, who is a full-time law enforcement officer.


6.      Full time salaried Railroad Police, Penal Institution Guards, Industrial Police, including Bank Guards, and Armored and Express Company Guards.  Persons employed as Industrial Police by private industry on a part-time basis, or where such employment is not the sole occupation of such person, may not compete in CPPA Police Combat Matches.  Any CPPA member in good standing as of 11-9-96 will be eligible to continue to compete.


7.      Members of the United States military meeting the following criteria shall be eligible to compete in CPPA’s Police Pistol Combat                            tournaments: (a) The competitor must be a member in good standing of the CPPA and NRA (b) The competitor must be currently assigned to a duly recognized military police unit of any of the armed forces of the United States and must have served     continuously with that unit or a similar unit for a minimum of one (1) year prior to entry into CPPA sanctioned competition, (c) The competitor must hold a valid military occupation specialty designation identifying the competitor as a military police officer, investigator, correctional officer or the like, (d) The competitor may not have been assigned to a military marksmanship unit (such as the Army Marksmanship Unit), except as a short-term student; within the three (3) years immediately preceding entry into CPPA   sanctioned competition. Eligibility pursuant to this subsection (7) shall apply equally to active duty regulars, reservists and members of the National Guard.  However, eligibility pursuant to this subsection (7) is granted as part of a test project and shall be valid for military competitors shooting CPPA sanctioned tournaments in the years 2006 and 2007 only, useless specifically re-authorized by the CPPA Board of Directors.


8.      Only those individuals listed in Sub-Sections 1 through 5 of this Section or described in Section 830 of the California Penal Code, will be allowed to compete.


Note:         Members removed from active duty, whether temporarily or permanent shall notify a board member and are ineligible to shoot in CPPA matches until reinstated to active duty.


B.               Teams:


1.      Teams shall be declared to the match sponsor prior to the first team member firing their first round.


2.      Reserve and auxiliary police, reserve deputy sheriffs, and other law enforcement reserves may compete as members of their department or agency's team(s) if they are uniformed, sworn, part-time working members of their agency.


3.      Any agency or department may enter one (1) two person team in addition to an unlimited number of four person teams.

Exception:  One additional two-person team may be allowed, if both members are RETIRED from that agency or department.


a.       Four Persons Team defined:


Teams will be made up of four (4) members of the same agency or department.  No "Pickup" teams will be permitted. Each competitor shall declare the team to which he/she is assigned prior to firing the team match.  No competitor may fire on more than one (1) team in any match.


b.      Two Person Team defined:


A Two Person Team may be made up by two members of the same agency, either regular, reserve or retired.  


Agencies may be a state or federal entity which members are geographically separated and shall be deemed separate agencies to the extent that they constitute a state area, a district, region or institution in the federal area which are geographically separated and are known as districts, sectors or regions may have one (1) two person team.



4.      Two Person Pool Teams:


1.      The CPPA shall allow Two Person Pool Teams, subject to the following restrictions.  Any competitor, having no other team members at a particular match, shall be allowed to be placed in a pool of other like competitors for the purpose of creating a Two Person Team.  Names placed in the pool shall be drawn at the conclusion of the match (Sunday, after the last line has been run). 


Each Two Person Pool Team shall be classified by averaging the shooters' classifications, and will be placed in that group of teams. Two Person Pool Teams shall be identified as Pool #1, Pool #2, etc.  No CPPA team number shall be assigned to any Two Person Pool Team.  Two Person Pool Team scores shall not be used for Year-End Standings or Awards.


Section  2.          SANCTIONED MATCHES


A.      Police Combat Matches:


1.      Matches held under the rules and authority of the California Police Pistol Association and the NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.


2.      All matches shall be NRA sanctioned.  (Approved, Registered, State, Regional)


3.      Match sponsors shall offer a 1500 match, distinguished revolver and pistol match, and team match.


4.      Programs of the Match Sponsors should include:


a.       Directions to the range and a map if possible.


b.      Dates and times for the match.


c.       Name and address of the person to be contacted about entries.


d.      Match fees.  The CPPA recommends that match fees for revolver and semi-auto be limited to a maximum of $30.00 for all individuals and team matches, (Excluding NRA and postal feels) $5.00 for the Distinguished Match and a $5.00 surcharge for non-CPPA members.  Thirty-three percent (33%), or the equivalent, of the gross match proceeds shall be returned to the competitors in prizes or awards.  In all cases, fees charged will be indicated in the match program.


e.      List any additional matches to be held, such as shotgun course, Bullseye, Falling Plate, etc.


f.       List any additional awards to be offered, such as Top Gun, High Woman, High Student, etc.  Also list how they are to be awarded.


g.      Information about eating facilities, housing, etc.


h.                 Name and phone number of the Match Referee, if one has been designated.


i.                    Teams shall be designated to the match sponsor prior to the first round being fired.


j.                    NRA classifications shall be used for scoring purposes.  Exception is student classifications, CPPA classifications shall be used.


5.      Match Sponsors:


a.       If a match sponsor is not present, or represented by another person or letter, to give requested dates for a match at the match sponsor's meeting, their seniority shall be forfeited and selection of a shooting date shall be in accordance with Section d., below.


b.                If a match sponsor fails to hold a match two (2) years consecutively, said match sponsor will revert to Provisional status and lose seniority relating to match date selection.

The affected match sponsor shall lose voting status at the first Annual Meeting following its failure to hold a match.


c.                 The match sponsor, upon a majority vote of the Board of Directors at the next scheduled Board meeting after any complaints are received, shall be notified in writing and by certified mail, outlining the complaint in specific terms, and requesting that the sponsor respond by written registered mail, with its rebuttals and corrective action taken.   This rebuttal shall be written within sixty (60) days of notification. 


At the next Board Meeting after receipt of the reply, the Board is empowered to take punitive action against the match sponsor based upon just cause; such punitive action will be in the form of a written notification stating that the said match sponsor is placed on probation for one (1) year.  All matters relating to the probation shall be brought before the match sponsor's meeting for an equitable solution, based upon a majority vote of the match sponsors present.


d.      A match sponsor not present at the match sponsor's meeting may not choose a date that conflicts with an already set date of another match sponsor, sanctioned or provisional, except with affected match sponsors approval.  The selected date shall be subject to the approval of the Match Sponsors Committee of the Board of Directors.


e.      The match sponsor is required to remit the following fees to the CPPA:


$2.00 per 1500 competitor

$5.00 per non-member

$1.00 per Distinguished Match competitor


f.       Any match sponsor that does not pay the required fees within thirty (30) days after the completion of the match shall:


1.      After thirty (30) days and before sixty (60) days after the completion of the match be required to pay a 25% delinquency fee in addition to the regular match fees.


2.      After sixty (60 days and before ninety (90) days after the completion of the match be required to pay a 75% delinquency fee in addition to the regular match fees.


3.                After ninety (90) days and before one hundred twenty (120) days after the completion of the match be required to pay a 100% delinquency fee in addition to the regular match fees.


4.      At the next Annual Meeting be required to post a $400.00 bond prior to being allowed to select a shooting date.


5.      The CPPA will send a letter to the match sponsor ten (10) days prior to fees being due, advising if the fees are not paid within the time indicated above, assessments will be made.


g.      A Match Sponsor shall be required to produce and distribute (by whatever means) an accurate results of the match to all those competing in the match, and to each member of the Board of Directors, at a time no later than 30 days from the last day of competition of the respective match.


Failure to do so will result in a fine of $250.00 levied against the Match Sponsor.  For each subsequent thirty (30) day period that the results are not received, an additional $100.00 fine will be assessed against the Match Sponsor.


h.       A Match Sponsor shall be required to distribute (by whatever means) all prizes, awards and recognition at a time no later than forty-five (45) days from the last day of competition of the respective match. 


Failure to do so will result in a fine of $250.00 levied against the Match Sponsor.  For each subsequent thirty (30) day period that the prizes are not distributed, an additional $100.00 fine will be assessed against the Match Sponsor.


Failure to comply with either one or both of the above rules shall result in said Match Sponsor being prohibited from holding an Association Match for one (1) year following the date of imposition of the fine for non-performance.


i.        Any match sponsor that does not pay their assessed penalty fees before the Annual Meeting will not be allowed to have a sanctioned match in the following year.   Voting rights of a match sponsor will be removed for the current year-end CPPA meetings for failure to pay penalty assessments for late fees.


j.        Match Sponsors are to return completed score records by the Tuesday following their match, to the Board Member responsible for scoring.  To facilitate this, the Match Sponsor shall, on the Monday morning following their match, send the completed score records via Overnight Express Mail Service or electronically if applicable.  Failure to comply shall result in a $50.00 Penalty Assessment with an additional $25.00 per day thereafter.


6.      Duration of matches:


a.       Matches will be limited to one (1) week and one (1) weekend in duration: Exception to be ruled on by the Board of Directors.


7.      All competitors at any match will fire all scores at the same range facility during the scheduled dates and times of the match. The only exception to this rule will be in the event of a Postal Match as explained in subsection F below.


8.      Changing assigned dates and cancellation:


a.       After a match date has been assigned and accepted by the match sponsor, there will be no changes except by the Board of Directors.


b.      The match sponsor can cancel the match only for good cause.  This cause will be explained in letter form and presented to the Board of Directors for evaluation and ruling.


Absent emergency or exigent circumstances, a Match Sponsor will give a 30 day notice, prior to the scheduled Match date, of the cancellation, in writing, to the CPPA Board of Directors.  The Match Sponsor will obtain CPPA mailing labels and mail a notification to all CPPA members of the match cancellation.


c.       Any match sponsor who cancels or changes dates of the match as scheduled without prior Board approval shall lose all seniority for the purpose of scheduling future matches.


9.      Match Sponsor Seniority:


a.       Selection of dates shall be by seniority of match sponsors.


b.       If sponsors have equal seniority, selection of senior match will be by drawing.


c.       The Secretary shall maintain a written seniority list.


B.      Provisional Matches:


1.         Provisional matches may be granted by the Board of Directors on a first year trial basis.


a.       The provisional match shall comply with and be conducted according to all CPPA rules.


b.      The CPPA will supply the provisional match with computer classification records and score registers.


c.       A fee to cover the expenses of the classification records, score registers and other supplies, will be set by the Board of Directors and charged to the provisional match sponsor.


At the Annual General Membership Meeting, the Board of Directors shall determine if the provisional match met all of the requirements of this section and is eligible for sanctioned match status.


C.      Other Types of Competition:


1.      Rules to be set by the National Rifle Association or other interested agencies.


D.      Advanced Reservations:


1.      Advance reservations by competitors may be accepted by the hosting agency.


2.      Individuals or Team Captains may reserve a firing date and time as agreed upon by the hosting agency.


3.      Any individual or team failing to show to fire at the specified reserved firing date and time may have fees forfeited by the hosted agency, whether or not the fees are paid in advance, if so stated in the match program.


E.      Open Classification Registration:


1.      Match sponsors hosting matches on the same weekend shall have the new member fill out the membership application and the match sponsor will mail the application to the Membership Person.  


2.      On dual match weekends, competitors will compete in the same class for both matches.


F.      Postal Matches:


1.      Any Match Sponsor may contract with any other Match Sponsor to conduct a Postal Match at one remote location on the same date and times.  i.e. A Northern Match Sponsor may contract with a Southern Match Sponsor to conduct a Postal Match to be held in conjunction with the Northern match, or vice versa.


2.      The Match Sponsor letting the contract will be responsible for all score recording, results, awards and prizes.


3.      The Match Sponsor letting the contract will reimburse the Postal Match Sponsor for the cost of targets used, as well as any other financial considerations that may be arranged.   Postal Match fees in excess of the $30.00 recommended in Section 2.A.2.d will not be subject to CPPA sanctions.


4.      The CPPA will have final approval of any Postal Match and Postal Match Sponsor.

Special Restrictions: None.


Section 4. TARGETS


In CPPA sanctioned competition, only cardboard B-27 targets printed by NRA Licensed Manufacturers, bearing the Official Competition Target Seal shall be used.  Use of an additional aiming mark or marking is prohibited.


Section 5. POSITIONS


Refer to Sec. 5 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions: None.

Special Restrictions: Rule 6.8, Add: "Either fixed frame or turning targets are permitted in CPPA sanctioned matches.  Turning targets will be used for Registered Matches."


If a Match Sponsor has a turning target system, that system shall be used, unless there is a mechanical malfunction that prohibits it.  Both match Sponsor and Postal Match Sponsor shall use the same type of target operating system.


Exception:  If either location is not equipped with turning targets, both locations shall use stationary targets.

Special Restrictions: "The NRA National Police-B, the NRA Modified Police Course and the NRA 50 Foot Indoor Police Course, as defined by NRA Rules, shall not be used for competition.  No other course(s) of fire, or modification(s) shall be used unless authorized by the CPPA Board of Directors."


For CPPA purposes the courses of fire outlined in the NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules are defined as follows:


          Standing Without Support Course shall also be known as Match 1.


          Kneeling and Standing Course at 25 yards shall be known as Match 2.


Sitting, Prone and Standing Course at 50 yard shall also be known as Match 3.


Standing Position Course Without Support at 25 yards shall also be known as Match 4.


NRA National Police Course stages 1 and 2 shall also be known as Match 5A, and Stages 3 and 4 shall also be known as Match 5B.


The aggregate of the above five matches shall be known as the NRA 1500 or Match 6.


Section 8. TIME LIMITS


Refer to Sec. 8 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions: Rule 8.1, Add: "When a whistle or electronic buzzer is used to signal commence firing and cease firing, the signal shall be at least one (1) second in duration.  Any shot fired by a competitor after the cease firing has finished sounding shall be a late shot as defined by NRA Rule 14.5."

Special Restrictions:


A.      Change reference to NRA to mean CPPA when applicable.


B.      At the conclusion of each stage of fire, competitors shall open their cylinders for inspection by a Line Judge.   Only upon the command of the Line Judge will the competitor clear his/her firearm.   Persons firing Semi-Automatic firearms shall have their slide locked open for inspection by the Line Judge.   The purpose of this rule is to insure that all rounds were fired during the stage of fire and to ensure range safety.

Special Restrictions: Change reference to NRA to mean CPPA when applicable.  Add; "Tournament officials, except the Match Referee, may compete in tournaments that they are officiating.  A Match Referee may be designated at the discretion of the Match Sponsor as governed by CPPA Section 21."

Section 14.          SCORING AND MARKING


Refer to Sec. 14 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions: Rule 14.3 ADD; "Only the intended scoring line on a target will be used when scoring a target.  Imperfections such as 'ghost lines' or other imperfections caused during the printing of the target shall no longer be considered as part of the scoring ring.  The use of an overlay should assist competitors when dealing with these problems.


Section 15.        DECISION OF TIES


Refer to Sec. 15 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions: None.




Refer to Sec. 16 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions: Change reference from NRA to CPPA when applicable.


Section 17.        STATE RECORDS


The California Police Pistol Association shall recognize all State Record scores, Individual and Team, fired in all approved matches.  Upon verification of scores, the CPPA will award the competitor(s) of record a suitable certificate of recognition.  State Records will be acknowledged for the following categories: Match 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1500 Aggregate, High Distinguished Match, Four-Man Team Match, Two-Man Team Match, High Score by a Female, High Score by a Student.  In addition the following categories will also be acknowledged:  Highest average score by an individual in the Governor's 20, Highest average score by a team in the Governor's Top-Ten Four-Person Teams and Highest average score by a team in the Governor's Top-Ten Two Person Teams.


NRA Registered and Regional matches will be used for National records.  National records will be maintained by the NRA.

It shall be the responsibility of each competitor to shoot to the absolute best of their ability each and every time they compete in an Association Match.


The reprehensible practice of sandbagging, deliberately firing a score below the capabilities of the shooter, shall not be tolerated, and, upon proof of this deceitful conduct, the shooter shall be permanently expelled from this Association.


Cheating, in any form, will be subject to sanctions, up to and including expulsion from the California Police Pistol Association.


Members removed from active duty, whether temporary or permanent, shall notify a board member and are ineligible to compete in CPPA matches until reinstated to active duty.


Any member expelled from the CPPA for a violation of rules shall not have any portion of dues or fees returned.


Section 19.          CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM


All provisions of this section shall also pertain to the annual California Police and Fire Games.


All classifications will be maintained by the NRA for statistical purposes.  Match sponsors will verify classifications of competitors via the NRA.


Refer to Section 19 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.


Special Restrictions:


A.   These Rules shall apply to all CPPA Sanctioned Matches.


B. All Match 6 (aggregate) scores fired in CPPA sanctioned 1500 matches by an individual will be used to determine that individual’s classification.


C.   Any new or unclassified competitor will be permanently classified after he/she has fired 300 rounds for record at a CPPA match(s) or at the California Police and Fire Games.  He/she will compete in the High Master class until Classified.


D.   Once a competitor has obtained an individual classification, the Competitor’s name and classification shall remain in the NRA computer book for three (3) years whether or not he/she is active during that period of time.  If he/she is inactive but resumes competing before the three (3) have elapsed, his/her last classification in the computer book shall remain in force.


E.    All out of state competitors without a CPPA or NRA classification will be required to compete in the High Master class.


F.    All persons firing in the California Police and Fire Games will have their scores submitted to the CPPA for classification purposes only.


G.  Each person’s permanent classification will be re-evaluated by the NRA after the posting of each match result.  When the competitor fires two (2) scores above his/her classification limit, he/she will automatically move into the next higher class. Refer to NRA Police Pistol Combat rule 19.17 (b).


H.   To obtain a lower classification, refer to NRA rule 19.17 (c). 


I.       If a shooter enters a lower class, he/she will be moved up into the proper class.  If a shooter enters in a higher class he/she will remain there.


The following excerpts from NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules, Section 19, are for information only.  Please refer to the current NRA Rules for a complete listing of all Sections.

Section 20.        AWARDS


A.      Individual Awards:


Awards shall be given in matches as follows:


1.      Match Winner


a.       First place is the highest individual regardless of classification.


b.      The Match Winner is not eligible for class awards.


2.      An award will be given for each seven (7) competitors or portion thereof in each class.   These awards go to the highest shooters in the class, not by dividing the class into groups of fifteen persons.



  1 through  7 shooters  = 1 awards

  7 through 14 shooters = 2 awards

                   15 through 21 shooters = 3 awards


3.      Awards shall be given for all matches that require an entry fee. Awards for all matches that do not require an entry fee may be made at the discretion of the match sponsor.   If there are to be no awards for an aggregate match, it shall be stated in the match flyer.





B.      Team Awards:


1.      Match Winner


a.       The first place team in the match.  This award goes to the highest team regardless of its classification.


b.      Individual awards for the team members should accompany this award.


c.       The Match Winner is not eligible for class awards.


2.      An award shall be given for each seven (7) teams or portion thereof in each class.   These awards go to the highest teams in the class, not by dividing the class into groups of fifteen teams.



  1 through   7 shooters  = 1 awards

  7 through 14 shooters =  2 awards

                   15 through 21 shooters =  3 awards


C.      Special Awards:


1.      To be given at the discretion of the hosting agency.

D.      Yearly Awards:   


1.      Individual  Awards


a.       The Governor's Fifteen

1)      Awarded to the highest fifteen (15) shooters in the State of California, based on their yearly average.   Duplicate awards will be made to competitors who are residents outside the State of California.


2)      Each competitor must compete in at least ten (10) sanctioned matches that are part of the CPPA schedule.


3)      The average will be based on the high scores, the number of which is equal to the number of matches that it takes to qualify.  (Example:  if it takes ten matches to qualify, then the top ten scores will be averaged.)


b.                Certificates of Achievement will be given to the shooters who place 16th through 45th.


2.      Team Awards


a.       The Association will purchase suitable plaques or trophies and award them to the top five teams in the State.  The criteria used in selecting the top teams will be the same as that used in selecting the Governor's Fifteen.


   3.      The CPPA Annual Awards Banquet will be held in the North and

South on alternate years.


E.      Delivery of Awards:


1.      Upon completion of a match, the Board of Directors may, upon the basis of complaints, ask from the match sponsor, proof that all awards have been shipped or delivered.


2.      If awards are not shipped within a 45 day period following the match, a $250 penalty will be assessed against the match sponsor.


F.      Quality of Awards:


Quality and type of awards are left to the discretion of the match sponsor, but, if numerous complaints regarding the quality of awards are received from the general membership, this fact will be brought before the Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting and will become a major consideration when determining future match sanctioning.


Section  21. JURY


Refer to Section 11.2.1 of NRA Police Pistol Combat Rules.

Special Restrictions:  This rule applies to all CPPA Sanctioned Matches.

(Formerly “Match Referee”)




A.      The Board of Directors shall, in light of any oversight in the Rules and Regulations, make necessary judgements as to the conduct of any competitor during the course of a match or matches.


B.               The Board of Directors will have the authority to take any necessary action they deem appropriate, as to competitor conduct.


C.      Procedures for Review:


1.      Before the conduct of a competitor will be reviewed by the Board of Directors, the President of the California Police Pistol Association must be notified of the requested review, in writing, no later than ten (10) days after the last scheduled day of the match in question.


2.      The President of the California Police Pistol Association shall, upon notification, send copies of the notice received to all Board of Directors members and the competitor involved no later than thirty (30) days prior to the next scheduled Board of Directors meeting.





A special match has been designated to recognize excellence in Police Combat competition.  The CPPA Distinguished Match is similar to the NRA Distinguished Program.  Types of firearms and ammunition have been restricted to minimize equipment advantages so that shooting skill alone is recognized.


The CPPA Distinguished Match is fired during CPPA sanctioned matches, provided the match sponsor has included this match in the official match program.  The match is held on a voluntary basis by the senior match sponsor on a match weekend and it is not a required match.


The CPPA Distinguished Match will be the 60 round NRA National Police Course (the same course of fire as match 5).   All NRA Police Combat competition rules will apply, with the exceptions listed below.


In order to compete in the CPPA Distinguished Match a competitor must be a paid member of the CPPA.   There will be no shooting classifications for the Distinguished Match, everyone will compete together in the same class.   Scores fired in this match will not be used for classification.


Distinguished points will be given to the top 15% of those non-distinguished competitors firing the match.   The top 5% will be awarded 10 points, the middle 5% will receive 8 points, and the lower 5% will receive 6 points.   When a competitor accumulates a total of 30 points, he/she will be awarded the CPPA Distinguished Badge.   The Badges will be numbered and awarded at the Annual Awards Banquet.   Once a competitor has earned his/her Badge, he/she will receive no additional award points.   Those competitors, who have "legged out" and participate in the Distinguished Match, will not be included in determining the top 15% of the match.   The match sponsor, in his option, may provide additional awards for this match, in which case, everyone firing the match will be eligible for individual awards.




The firearm used must be a standard, unaltered, factory produced revolver intended for police service and be capable of chambering and firing .38 Special ammunition.   The only modification allowed will be grips.   Barrel length shall no exceed six inches.   Bull barrels or alterations to sights, triggers or hammers will not be permitted.   The trigger must be capable of both single and double action and be capable of lifting 2 1/2 pounds when the weapon is cocked for single action firing.  Triggers will be checked prior to and during the match.  Each competitor is responsible for his/her firearm, and any firearm which may be questionable, shall be submitted to the match sponsor prior to firing the match.


Ammunition for the CPPA Revolver Distinguished Match may be either factory produced or reloaded.   It must be a 158 grain, lead, round nose or semi-wadcutter service load.   No wadcutter, +P, or magnum loads will be allowed.  Ammunition must be provided by the competitor and will be checked by the line judge prior to the match being fired.




The firearm must be a factory manufactured (catalog item) center-fire semi-automatic pistol of .35 caliber or larger, barrel length not to exceed 5 inches (replacement barrels cannot be longer than the original).   Any accessories, parts and components which are manufactured to duplicate, in materials and dimensions, the original as offered by any of the manufacturer of the pistol, will be accepted.   "Open sights", from any manufacturer, are acceptable.   Rear sights may be fixed or adjustable and fixed open front sights may not extend beyond the front of the slide, maximum sight radius not more than 7-1/2 inches. Trigger pull not less than 3.5 pounds single action or for those of double action capability only.   The pistol must be equipped with standard issue or commercial procured grips/stocks of the same size and design.   Thumb rest grips/stocks or those flared at the base are not allowed nor is tape on the grips/stocks or any substance which results in a sticky surface to the grips/stocks or hand.


No external modifications are permitted.   No internal modifications may be made that would render the pistol less safe than originally designed by the manufacturer.   All standard safety features of the pistol must operate properly.


Specifically prohibited are full length Bo-Mar type ribs on the slide, trigger shoes, and any system of recoil control based on compensators, barrel venting or barrel porting.


The above prohibitions are to be broadly construed to the end of permitting only genuine Service pistols and may be expanded to include other items not enumerated which are incompatible with a Service Pistol


Each competitor is responsible for his/her firearms and any which may be questionable should be submitted to the Match sponsor prior to the match for a decision.


Ammunition for the CPPA Semi-Auto Distinguished Match must be provided by the competitor, and may be either new or reloaded.   It must be .35 caliber or larger, service-type, full metal jacket, or hollow point.   No midrange or semi-wadcutter ammunition will be allowed.
